The folks over at Osprey Games are looking to support Frostgrave Organized Play.
Your event has to be open to the general public and advertised on the internet. It must be run in conjunction with, or with the support of, a gaming store, a gaming club, or a larger convention. Drop them a line at [email protected] and let them know what you have planned! I have been going through Version 2 of the Core Rulebook PDF which was sent out to backers of the Kickstarter. While it is tempting to compare it to the previous version instead lets just focus on solely this incarnation. From page 18 to 114 you are introduced to Thēah, from Avalon, Secret Societies to Thēah's Monsters, you get enough insight into the world to create your hero (remember that word though...hero) or run a game. For the countries, this covers Culture, Names, Clothing, Currency, Customs, Art & Music, Religion, Government, Military, and current relations with the other nations of Thēah. It is a good start, although by no means exhaustive as to its coverage. Chapter 3 is devoted to Making a Hero, there is that word again...hero. You see this game is truly about hero's and nothing sums it up better than the following sidebar. Hero's are human, they will make mistakes, let their passions get the best them and yet at their core they will always strive to do what is right.
With only 47 pages devoted to Making a Hero, the process is very straight forward and easily accomplished by even novice players. Action & Drama comprise chapter 4, this is the meat and potatoes of the game system and is a scant 37 pages. This system is very light on what is known as crunch, in gamer circles. In my opinion that is a good thing when you are trying to capture the excitement of cinematic works (i.e. The Three Musketeers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Zorro...to name but a few). There are chapters dealing with Sorcery (24 pages), Dueling (4 pages), and Sailing (15 pages)...again a very light touch in regards to the rules. Chapter 8 is all about Secret Societies (15 pages), covering The Brotherhood of the Coast, Die Kreuzritter, The Explorer's Society, The Invisible College, Knights of the Rose & Cross, Los Vagabundos, Mociutes Skara, Rilasciare, Sophia's Daughters, and Novus Ordo Mundi. Enough to start out with but as a GM one should never feel constrained by the choices of the game designers. The final chapter is 9...Game Master with 24 pages that are actually worth reading! I have to give this book high marks as I do believe it hits all of the pertinent pieces of information to get one started. The book is off to the printers and should be available as a PDF for purchase by non-Kickstarter backers very shortly. If you are a fan of the swashbuckling genre this game is more than likely the one you have been looking for. Right off the bat, I will say that it is a shame Empress Miniatures doesn't have larger pics of their models as they are gorgeous castings. Perhaps worse still is that for the most part their tiny pics are of unpainted models, even an average painter with an airbrush could really make these models pop. In terms of scale they are extremely accurate 1/50 and 1/48. First up we have the ZSU-23-4 "Shilka", mounting quad 23mm 2A7 autocannons, developed to replace the ZSU-57-2. Unlike it's predecessor the "Shilka" used radar (RPK-2 Tobol) to target aircraft, covering the dead zone where SAMs were not effective. Produced from 1964 to 1982 this old warhorse is still a threat to low flying fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. You can get your very own "Shilka" in 1/48 scale for £30 plus shipping ($42.51 USD). Next we have the British Warthog, a twin chassis multi-purpose articulated tracked carrier. Used by the British in Afghanistan by the Royal Armoured Corps, although originally developed by ST Kinetics (Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd). While it is no longer in service with the British it is still in use by the Signapore Armed Forces and the Royal Thai Army. Your 1/48 scale Warthog is available for £30 plus shipping ($42.51 USD). If you need crew for your Empress Humvee or MATV, they have you covered with this selection of able bodied fighters. For £8 ($11.34 USD) your Humvees and MATVs can be ready for any enemy engagement! I would STRONGLY suggest that any order placed to England have a tracking number, as I have experienced lost packages on 3 occasions from 2 different companies based their. It should be noted the Empress Miniatures was NOT one of these companies though. At this juncture I am no longer willing to give the benefit of the doubt to UK Royal Mail.
Mantic Games has their new terrain set...the Industrial Quadrant up for pre-order at £99.99 (or $141.31 USD), scheduled to ship June 27th. It contains the following items... 12 Industrial Wall Packs A 12 Industrial Wall Packs B 2 Ruins Sprue 1 2 Ruins Sprue 2 4 Industrial Accessories Pack A 4 Industrial Accessories Pack B 4 Urban Accessories Sprues 5 Connector Packs From what I have seen, these items have lots of raised surface details, so you can make them come alive with painting.
Let me know what you think! Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is going to be available for the Xbox One, PS4 and the PC on October 28 of this year. The PC users that already own all of the DLC (Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Hearthfire) will get this enhanced version for free which is understandable.
First and foremost the game is going to get a graphics overhaul including volumetric god rays and snow shades...again this is to be expected. Given the level of support that modders have given Skyrim they certainly can see which mods garnered the most interest. Of course that begs the $20,000 question...what mods are going to be included for consoles? The term "select" was used in conjunction with mods...so we aren't going to get them all. Obviously...more than a few will be disqualified due to their...adult...nature so just let that go no need to complain about that. There are still a plethora (thank you Thesaurus.com) for them to choose from and some of them are really awesome. My choices go like this... Lightweight Potions (because I prefer healing potions to Mammoth Snout) Sneak Tools (because not all of us play the game like Conan) Magic of Skyrim (155 new spells with scrolls and staves added to vendors) Immersive Armors (tons of new armor sets that are lore friendly...i.e. not for Japanese Anime) Bandolier Bags and Pouches (stylish and the enhance your carry weight) Throwing Weapons (sometimes you just want to reach out and stick someone) Staves of Skyrim (variations and modify how they work) Immersive Weapons (you got the armor...now get the weapons) Cloaks of Skyrim (a good cloak can keep you alive in the frigid north) Camping Kit (for those who do not fast travel) Well that is my wish...which is subject to change without notice. What are yours? So Reaper is releasing 4 new Dark Heaven Legends Fantasy Pewter Miniatures this month. First up we have the Half-Ogre Fighter by Bobby Jackson ($8.99) 03761 With a mug that only a mother could love we have the Cave Goblin Warriors (2/pack) by Tre Manor ($5.99) 03776 Cave Goblin Archers (2/pack) by Tre Manor ($5.99) 03777 Finally, Cave Goblin Breakers (2/pack) by Tre Manor ($6.29) 03778 These minis are sporting plenty of details and character, making them a fine addition for RPGs or fantasy skirmish rules.
Let me know what you think in the comments! Patrick over at TT Combat has just released 5 new products, the Oriental Bridge and Lanterns for the Eastern Empire Scenics range. These bridges have a length of 7 1/2 inches (19cm) by 2 1/4 inches (6cm) wide, with a peak height of 2" (5.5cm). They would certainly work for any Yu Jing themed Infinity tables in addition to Oriental themed wargames or RPGs. Priced at £6.95 ($10.07 USD at today's exchange rate) you get 2 bridges and 5 lanterns, which is a very good price point. Next up the Highway Sliproad section... This scenery piece is so new Patrick has not had time to post up it's dimensions, so I went ahead and grabbed the second photo to help give a sense of scale. As I have mentioned previously, I am going to be working on putting together a scenery layout for 28mm modern wargame (a yet to be decided wargame) and having an elevated road system will certainly add some visual impact to the table. This section is priced at £9.95 ($14.41 USD). The Highway Turnoff... Once Patrick has had a chance to add dimensions to these pieces I will come back and edit them in. I can envision those concrete supports sporting some graffiti along with some signs for added interest. Priced at £9.95 ($14.41 USD) it will hook in the with the Highway Sliproad section as well as... The Highway Straight... Priced at £8.95 ($12.97 USD) it features 2 lanes with a divider (hard cover to us wargamers) and enough space in each lane to accomodate TT Combat's Ambulance and the Dark Knight (not included). From what I know their Ambulance is a little more than 2 1/2 inches wide so...just guessing I would say 1 lane is 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide. Finally, the City Park Set... This set contains 1 fountain, 1 flower bed and 4 benches all for the reasonable price of £5.95 ($8.62 USD). Parks are a great way to break up a cityscape and inject some greenery and they also offer some unique tactical problems in a wargame.
So...what do you think? Be sure to let me know in the comments! Yesterday (06.07.2016) a rumor surfaced that there is going to be a remaster of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PS4 and Xbox One. NeoGAF stated that the remaster will "utilizing DLC content, mod support, and improved graphics." When one Skyrim junkie (i.e. me) considers the possibilities of putting an amped up Skyrim on either the Xbox One or PS4 it certainly makes my heart miss a beat...or two. Given all of the mods that are available for PC players getting even a tiny fraction of that would be great for console gamers. I would imagine the hardest part for Bethesda would be deciding which mods to implement...and figuring out where to put all of our money.
This would be something of a first and if it goes as well as one might suspect...it may very well open up the door on remastering other titles. Given the level of support that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion had, I for one would love to revisit that game on a beefier console. If Shinobi602 and NeoGAF are correct we will learn the truth of the matter this Sunday, June 12 at 7pm PDT/10pm EDT, at an E3 conference! There may be some eye rolling and labored sighs out there...if you aren't aware of the tremendous support that PC users have enjoyed for Skyrim I understand completely. This is one of those instances I am going to ask you to have a little faith in me on this one. When I first got sick, a little more than 2 years ago now, I found Pinterest. It was precisely the sort of distraction that I needed at that point...as I could only withstand being out of bed for a short time on any given day. Pinterest allowed me to search on subjects that I was interested in...miniature scenery, miniatures, rpgs and so forth. More importantly it ultimately became my motivation...I initially set a goal of finding 10 pins that I could post on a given subject for when I could stand being out of bed. It was my baby steps to not giving up. After all that time, it turns out that I have accumulated more than 12,100 pins on 32 different boards covering a range of interests. Miniature Scenery Left to right: a step by step tutorial from 5th Dimension on creating waterfalls a 1/24th scale Ford Thunderbird Convertible diorama Rezolution Tokyo Techno terrain gaming table Those are just 3 pins out of 2,900 pins for Miniature Scenery. Miniatures I wanted this gallery to be something more than just a showcase of Games Workshop miniatures and while there are more than a few GW minis there are a good representation of other minis. With 1,900 pins there are also tutorials on painting and basing...plenty of inspiration to be found here. Infinity: the wargame not the car In terms of Infinity the game...not a bad little board with more than 500 pins devoted to one of my favorite wargames. Want to see how somebody else painted up a Reverend Healer...we got it. Need some ideas for ultra-cool scenery...it is here. The only downside is that you need a Pinterest account...which doesn't cost any money and takes just a couple of minutes to setup. The upside is that Pinterest has a myriad of ideas, hacks, and more inspiration than you could act upon in 10 lifetimes!
