Zhukov Update and Sniper Tips...

With the latest update, Zhukov, we see the additions of the Russian T-70 light tank, Ba-6 Armored Scout Car, M1895 Nagant Revolver, German Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. L. 'Luchs' and the addition of camo for the three new vehicles. Along with some tweaks to the Depot map so far it seems that this update has been far more stable than the Young version. You can check out the H&G Developer Videolog for a better overview.

Having played my German sniper up to a Major there are some hard fought lessons that I can pass on.

Stick to the shadows, spotting a disciplined sniper shooting out of a shadow is no easy feat. If they have the Camouflage badge you won't have any clues upon being nailed by them either.

Always go prone, your weapon is far more stable.

Discipline...go for the high probability shots. It is better to let four moving targets go and wait for that one guy who is going to oblige you by stopping. The other benefit is that you stretch out your ammo and you do not give away your position as readily. Once you have played this game enough you can tell the difference between the report from the different sniper rifles. Especially helpful when you are hunting enemy snipers. A quick check of your map will let you know if a friendly is nearby that picked up an enemy sniper rifle.

Movement is your enemy. A moving target is far more easy to spot than a stationary one.

Pick your spot carefully. If you watch players they tend to go in the straightest line from spawn to objective. I tend to go with locations that provide flanking shots, with nearby cover that I can fall back to. I avoid buildings as much as possible, my camouflage is pretty useless inside buildings and it is one of the first places I look for enemy snipers and surprisingly find them a lot. If you can find a bush in a shadow with a good flanking view that is optimal.

A sniper is a support weapon, if I can setup behind or flanking a friendly tank I can help keep enemy tank hunters from closing in on them. Equally viable is to cover an entrance or a ladder on an objective that would be a natural draw for the enemy to go for. Again taking objectives is not something that I advocate a sniper doing, you simply do not have the firepower for close quarters battles.

Weapon build, I go for damage with the optimal kill range normally being 200 meters. Again, high probability shots are the order of the day when you get to 300 meters your accuracy falls of a great deal. I only take one pouch of ammo and take a Luger as a backup.

Kar98 Sniper Rifle
Ammo          Anschusspatrone s.S.
Scope           ZS Zielacht (fine cross hairs)
Trigger         Fine Hair Trigger
Internal        Heavy Bolt
Barrel           Chrome Moly 4150

Luger
Ammo          Wulff Engel
Sight             Match Sights
Trigger         Match Trigger
Internal        Light Pistol Spring
Barrel           Chrome Lined Barrel

Badges Nimble and Camouflage

Final thoughts...the sniper is a long range hitter as soon as you move into a building you are going to be at a disadvantage. Even with your Luger (or other pistol) you are no match for a competent player armed with a smg when you get rushed. A lot of snipers will use a motorcycle or bicycle to get into position, normally parking pretty close to where they are setting up at. It is one of the first signs I look for when hunting other snipers. I generally use a bicycle but will park it a fair distance from where I am going to be setting up at.

As a terrain builder I am constantly converting measurements to various scales. Wouldn't it be nice if you had a ruler which would do that for you? Rulers-of-the-World has you covered with more than 200 different scales in both metric and imperial.

They offer rulers in 7 inch, 13 inch, 25 inch lengths, all of them in white plastic. It should be noted that they also do custom rulers, with a minimum order of 5 rulers.

This is the sort of product that I have been desiring for some time, so I went ahead and ordered a 7 inch and 25 inch rulers. Seeing that they are just down the road from me I hope to have them shortly so I will report back my thoughts on them.

Spartan Games has a line of accessories that ranks up there as one of my favorites. So much so I have purchased all of them, although I have yet to get to the point of assembling and painting them up.

All of them are resin cast pieces with excellent details and very few imperfections. These pieces may not be officially for Infinity, however they are a perfect fit and are a great way to add scatter terrain to your table. If you are in the U.S. and your FLGS doesn't carry Spartan Scenics you can see if The Warstore has them in.

Conflicted...

While I have admired Manorhouse Workshop's products for more than a decade I am certainly conflicted about featuring them here. You see I tried to make a purchase from them several years ago without success, which included multiple emails that went unanswered. The only positive point that I took away from that experience was at least no money changed hands.

Putting that aside, Manorhouse Workshop does create great looking terrain pieces. They are currently working on terrain tiles, the ruins of the cloister, which are going to be divided into four different bases. These four tiles are designed so that they can be rearranged into a wide layouts, giving you flexibility. The level of detail that is shown in these pictures is stunning and is what we have seen from them in the past. With a skilled painter these tiles should

Empress Miniatures has just released the Chinese ZBD05 PLA amphibious tank. Featuring a 30mm cannon, two HJ-73C ATGM rail launchers, and a 7.62mm coxial mounted machine gun. This vehicle has a crew of 3 and can carry a 8 infantry. It first showed up in a military parade in 2009, so it is a new vehicle in the Chinese arsenal.

If you are putting together a Chinese Marine force then this is a must have. It should be noted that Empress Miniatures has a great selection of Chinese PLA miniatures.

Spectre Miniatures has come out with an addition to their Task Force Operators, the Breacher - Alfa. Carrying a suppressed HK416 carbine, breaching shotgun, with a customized breaching tools to defeat obstacles (hooligan bar, small sledge and bolt cutters).

Another exciting addition is their Deniable Operators! I am stoked about these miniatures is that they can be used in a wide variety of roles. From a well armed gang (i.e. Heat and Die Hard) too SpecOps, these minis give you a broad range of options. Currently they have 6 different miniatures in this line and I hope that they will expand it even more in the months to come!
