Are you the Gatekeeper?

I sense a disturbance in my bank account balance...

"Discover a holocron that promises unprecedented power. Follow in the footsteps of a Jedi Knight with a mysterious, galaxy-wide legacy. Explore a metropolis rent apart by lingering wounds from the Clone Wars. Delve into the Empire’s darkest secrets."

"If you’re using Chronicles of the Gatekeeper to launch a campaign, you might even put together a mixed party of Force users, Smugglers, and Rebels. Each PC will experience the journey in a different way, make choices based on a unique Obligation, Duty, or Morality, and conclude the adventure with a different next step in mind."

What you mean that Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion and Force and Destiny are NOT three separate games??? That ladies and gentlemen was either a Freudian Slip or the smoking blaster. Of course, we are mere weeks from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens so Fantasy Flight Games may no longer feel the need to keep up that particular pretense.

Still, it is Star Wars so Fantasy Flight is relatively certain that we are going to pony up the money for what looks to be an interesting adventure.

The full Warcraft movie trailer is out and it looks AWESOME! It has Travis Fimmel (aka Ragnar Lothbrok of Vikings) as Anduin Lothar, Clancy "there can be only one" Brown, Ben "Angel" Foster, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Prince of Persia), Paula Patton...well need I say more?

Seriously...go watch the trailer!

Black Ops III

Black Ops III just arrived a few hours ago and I have to say that I am not only impressed...I am DAMN impressed! For the first time that I can remember the campaign is not just adequate it is very well done and engaging! At this point I haven't even gone over to multi-player mode, as I can't simply bring myself to stop playing the single player campaign.

Great voice acting by the likes of Christopher Meloni, Katee Sackhoff, Tony Amendola, Sean Douglas, Ben Browder, Abby Brammell and Rachel Kimsey. While, Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, and Ron Perlman are in the zombies mode. Having good actors is just part of the recipe though, they need dialog that doesn't sound like it came from angst ridden RPG prose...it most definitely is NOT.

The new weapons and gear are cooler than Shadowrun...even though I nearly choked when I heard them talking about DNI (Direct Neural Interface). If you played Shadowrun (the RPG) then you know the DNI is a thing.

Think it would be cool to hack a senty gun or a drone and take it over?    Check!

Want to run on walls like Neo in the Matrix?    Check!

Those nasty grunt robots getting you down?     Not a problem...just hack them and cause them to go boom!

Out of grenades but got a human problem?     Just release a swarm of fire nanobots!

I could go on...but...I want to get back to the game. Hopefully...I will see you online!

Will it be Fate?

With on 16 days to go Interface Zero: Fate Edition (by David Jarvis/Gun Metal Games) is just shy of the halfway mark for being fully funded.

What is Interface Zero?

"Like it says in the short description at the top, IZ (that's short for Interface Zero) is a sci-fi/cyberpunk game set on Earth in the year 2090. This version of Interface Zero 2.0 is powered by the Fate game system, published by Evil Hat Productions

In this dark and grimy world of corrupt, power-mad governments, greedy Mega-corporations and fringe science-gone-wild, you play Ronin: rogue street operatives who make their living doing the things nobody else can, or will, do. You have no master, no loyalties beyond your bank balance. Your only friends are those of convenience. Your tools of the trade are computer code, high-powered weapons, combat drones, cybernetic augmentations, mental powers and maybe even a little bit of luck.

In 2090, the line between human and non-human has blurred to the point where the word "human" is little more than an abstract concept.Fully-sapient androids walk the streets alongside vat-grown simulated bio-forms. These bio-forms are known as simulacra, or "sims" for short. The science of hybridization allows anyone with enough cash or credit to splice her DNA with anything from a beetle to a rhino. The human genome has been hacked; rewritten to suit the latest fashion trends.

Technology has increased to the point where we can augment our bodies with cybernetic implants, or even completely replace body parts. Most of these, such as the Tendril Access Processor, help us in our daily lives. Of course, there are other reasons to get "cybered," omae. If you want to stay at the top of the food chain, if you want to get the best jobs the mean streets have to offer, you need an edge. Cyberware gives you that edge."

If you are a fan of Fate and the cyberpunk genre then this maybe the game that you are looking for!

Just Add Lasers?

Well, not really lasers, just The Laser Terrain Company's new line of modular, interlocking terrain pieces that light up. Their system is built around four central pieces, cross section, straight corridor, corner corridor and T-junction corridor.

Picture
The lighting system is battery powered (8x AA batteries) which can power up to 5 panels with the 5-way splitter that is included. There are two versions the white edition and black edition.
Picture
Scaled for 28-32mm miniatures this terrain will fit a host of sci-fi games...Infinity comes to mind!

If you need more convincing check out their Facebook page and the photo gallery there.  While I could go on and on about the myriad of stretch goals that they have but I think that you would be far better served by checking out their Kickstarter yourself!

The latest update of what is upcoming

We have Roger Van Zant (Airborn Ranger Captain) for Ariadna, Seraphs Military Order Armored Cavalry for PanO, Guijia Squadrons for the Yu Jing, Special Deterrance Goup Azra'il for the Haqqislam, and finally the Dactyls Steel Phalanx Support Corps for Aleph.

Picture
“I lead. You follow.”
Van Zant, to Captain Pendleton of the 2nd Airborne Rangers during the Operation Death from the Clouds briefing. Ariadnan Commercial Conflicts.
Picture
"Voluntas Dei" (God Willing). Motto of the Seraph Cavalry.

The Father-Officers of the different PanOceanic Military Orders (Hospitallers, Teutons, Knights of Santiago, of the Holy Sepulchre, Montesa...), have the job of leading the vanguard of faithful troops into the heart of battle. In the heat of combat, cut off from the call of God, the Father-Officers are capable of reaching the doors of hell itself.

Picture
“The Sì Líng Squads are a prestigious unit, a source of pride for their military prowess in service of the nation. The Guijia machines of the State Cavalry are the best warfare tools devised by man to this day.
Picture
The Azra’il are veteran elite troops who have fallen into disgrace. The Jamdariyah, the Sultan’s personal guard, is renewed with each Sultan. Every time a new one is elected by the people, his head of security disbands the previous Jamdariyah.
Picture
The Support Corps of the Assault Subsection of the SSS is composed entirely of specialists, both combat engineers and field medics. The Steel Phalanx was conceived as a purely offensive force, but the stagnation of the Paradiso conflict spread the always scarce Sophotects too thinly, forcing the SSS to create a new support unit capable of keeping up with the rest of its heroic troops.

Now, just on the off chance that isn't enough Infinity goodness for one sitting, you can always swing by my Pinterest page for Infinity: the wargame not the car.

Elder Wood is in the final 30+ hours of their Kickstarter and lets just say it is well funded! I can't blame people for lining up to get these awesome looking gaming boxes. With the wide variety of choices that you have to customize the look and purpose of your gaming box (or boxes) everyone should be able to get what they are looking for!

Congrats to Quentin Weir on such a spectacular Kickstarter!

Myythic

So Cactyys Totem Gaming has produced a new RPG game called Myythic. Now it is like your standard tabletop RPG, you have dice, a Players Handbook, there are dwarves, elves and humans and NO Game Master.

Wait...what?

Instead of a GM there is an internet element that serves that function, without being a video game. When you enter a room the online game simulator will describe the area and other pertinent details. This allows you to play solo or with up five friends. In affect everyone controls the game, which could be either really interesting or very bad...depending on who you are playing with.

Is this the next evolution in gaming or another fad akin to Amber (the diceless RPG)?

I am strangely intrigued by the possibilities though.

Their latest news is that on November 15th the Dungeon Simulator will be set on Myythic Level Difficult for 5 days. Sounds like a challenge to me!

Dark Sword Miniatures

Dark Sword Miniatures has just released 19 new figures of the Tony DiTerlizzi Masterwork series. I have long been impressed with Dark Sword's miniatures and certainly have purchased more than my fair share of them. Out of this newest batch, excluding the two furries (simply not a fan of those in general), I can envision adding more than a couple of these to my collection.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that Jen Haley had painted up the Harvester of Souls. Jen had dropped out of sight, closing her online portfolio Paintrix. Hopefully she will continue doing consignment work so we can enjoy her art.
