There are times where I get tunnel vision and don't always pay attention to products outside of my wheelhouse. Fortunately, some of you give me virtual poke every so often and help me to see the bigger picture. Today, I would like to focus in on Blotz...a game company that produces a variety of wargaming terrain. Including this beauty, the Grand Hotel... Measuring an impressive 11 1/2 inches long, 5 1/8 inches wide, and 5 inches tall this laser cut building is certain to dominate your Dropzone Commander table! Based out of the UK, Blotz has this piece of scenery set to retail at £24 ($34.61 USD).

A scenery piece doesn't have to be physically massive to visually command the game table...it need merely to stand out. Tabletop World understands this, so they incorporate a myriad of details to draw all eyes in...closer and closer...case in point the Mansion! Obviously, it is no shrinking violet in terms of its overall size, 11.42 inches tall with a foot print of 7.87 inches by 6.9 inches. As it is comprised of resin it weighs a respectable 2.7 pounds with a price tag of $134.35 (at the current rate of exchange 1.14 Dollars to 1 Euro). Filling up a game table with terrain from Tabletop World is not going to be a casual gaming purchase for most of us. Featuring a fully detailed interior, this piece encourages gaming inside as well. It would be good to remember that painting all of these intricate details is going to be a substantial investment in terms of time.
The one feature I wish we would see more of is registration holes for rare earth magnets or even dowels. to allow these multi-level pieces to go together and stay together more readily. What is 47 1/4" tall, with a footprint of 35 1/2" square and weighs more than 39.5 lbs? They call it the Galaxy Building and it strives to live up to its name. Constructed from 3mm MDF, 3mm colored acrylic and 1mm grey board this monstrous building is sure to dominate any game table! TT Combat certainly has raised the bar with this particular building kit. Priced at £200, which is $287.83 (at the current rate 1.44 US Dollar/British Pound), that is a very respectable neighborhood. Yet, if you think about it...considering that you are covering a footprint of 9 square feet with a vertical height of nearly 4 feet...that price is not even remotely outrageous. If you think that it is merely a giant shoe box, feast your eyes on this... Have I put in an order yet?
No...not because of a lack of temptation but the realization that I can't envision where I would store it! For a while now I have been a great admirer of Rob Hawkins Hobby Blog and his impressive terrain building. As such, I was very pleased to learn that Rob has opened up Skull Forge Scenics so we can get our hands on some of his items! At present he is offering a set of Roadside Shrines and a set of Tombstones. If I were a narcissist, I would say that a lot of people are trying to sell me product for my Frostgrave Friday graveyard! Fortunately for me...I am not.
I hope that you will check out Rob's Hobby Blog and his shop! Fantasy Flight Games has announced Heroes of the Resistance will be released in the 3rd quarter of 2016. This will feature a new X-Wing (with BB-8) and Millennium Falcon that represent the ships we saw in The Force Awakens. Of course, this expansion is far more than new ship sculpts... Poe Dameron is now Black One, with a Pilot Skill of 9 while his pilot talent remains unchanged, he comes in with a point cost of 33 over his original 31. Rey gets her very own Falcon card, that allows her to reroll any 2 blank dice when she attacks or defends against an enemy ship within her firing arc...yes...the Falcon is still equipped with a turret primary weapon. Finn is a crew upgrade for the Resistance, although they haven't released any details as to his card...just yet!
This little gem has been sitting in my links without any love for a while now...TT COMBAT! A site that features an array of Sci Fi, Sci Fi Gothic, Wild West, Fantasy, Old Town (steampunk/Malifaux), and City Scenics (Modernesque). One of the main points that jumped out at me was just how reasonably priced their pieces are...especially considering how good their items look. As a fan of the Walking Dead...I truly appreciated their Atlanta RV (pictured below). I already have my next project lined up after completing the Frostgrave scenery and that is a line of Modern Terrain for using either Black Ops or Force on Force rules. TT Combat has a great line of bigger vehicles such as...the Garbage Waste Truck, the Armoured Truck, the HGV Truck, the Police Truck, the Ambulance, and the Metro Monorail (monorail sold separately). Without a doubt though...the MSV Ironsides cargo ship is what really caught my eye. This beast measures a stunning 29.73 inches long, 5.9 inches wide, and 5 inches tall. This model will work great from WW2 up to Modern without looking out of place. They also have more than a bit of synergy between their models. Take the MSV Ironsides and pair it with their Cargo Crane. I hope you will check out TT Combat I think you will find that they have a lot to offer at a very reasonable price.
Reaper has their latest releases in the Dark Heaven Legends line up for us... 03640: Ghast by Julie Guthrie ($7.79) 03771: Shadow Demon by Bob Ridolfi ($11.79) 03772: Giant Ticks (2) by Bob Ridolfi ($6.79) 03773: Giant Centipedes (2) by Bob Ridolfi ($5.99) 03774: Tengu Warrior by Derek Schubert ($5.99) 03775: Tengu Wizard by Derek Schubert ($5.99)
