Fantasy Flight Games: Star Wars X-Wing Wave IX

6/3/2016

Fantasy Flight Games gives us just a taste of what is upcoming with Wave IX for X-Wing. Overall, it seems that late in the 3rd quarter of this year Scum & Villainy are going to get some love...with two ships the Protectorate Starfighter and the Shadow Caster.

The Protectorate has a good selection of actions (focus, target lock, barrel roll, and boost...the 3 attack catches my eye first and foremost. Of course, the lack of shields and 4 hull lets me know just how fragile this fighter is going to be. Fenn Rau and his 9 piloting (albeit at 28 points) puts him in the top tier...his ability of +1 die at range 1 when attacking or defending means that he is going to have 5 attack which pretty much is going to make him the Scum & Villainy heavy hitter (at least as range 1).

The Shadow Caster is kind of a question mark at this moment, they say it "trades ray shielding for speed" but without seeing the maneuver dial we really don't know what that means. The turret but not really a turret is kind of weird...having to spend an action to change your turret fire arc stings a bit. It does have a 3 attack though...so who knows how that is going to play out.

Next we have the Special Forces TIE from the Force Awakens...

Right off the bat...2 attack...2 agility...ouch. Sure, you get 3 shields and 3 hull with an action bar of focus, target lock and barrel roll but the price tag is pretty steep (at least Quickdraw is at 29 points). The Special Ops Training does give you the ability of gaining 1 additional attack die with your primary attack or 2 attacks with your primary weapon. I will certainly be getting it...at this juncture I have some reservations about it.

Finally the ARC-170...

Ummm...the Rebellion is using Clone War tech...they really are brave. So the best pilot Norra Wexley has a 7 pilot skill and comes in at 29 points with a 2 attack and 1 agility (6 hull and 3 shields though). It does have a tail gunner but overall unless there is something astounding that I am missing this starfighter belongs in a museum. In fairness...I will be getting one just to see what it is all about though.

Well, that does it for me...until next time!

Laser Dream Works: Vauban Fortress

Laser Dream Works has recently fired up a Kickstarter for their Vauban Fortress, a 3D printable 17th and 18th century star fort. This fort will fit perfectly for Three Musketeers and any to do with the Golden Age of Piracy.

To get all of the stretch goals you will need to pledge $60. While I am a fan of this period historically, it is on the back burner for me at the moment, with Frostgrave, Infinity, 28mm Modern and Bolt Action (28mm WW2) weighing heavily on my mind. With that said I will be backing this project...I have a resin ship from Old Glory and around 50 scurvy dogs that long to take to the sea!

I do wish that the Star Fort: Fort Pitt was not locked at $7,500 as that is the version that I really like.

The other thing to note is that if you want cannon to arm your fort, their 28mm 24lb cannon runs $4,50 a piece (sold separately). Not altogether surprising given the prices for their 28mm ships...which are just too cool!

Customeeple has released the Forbidden Palace designed specifically for Infinity the game. It is comprised of three individual structures that stack up to create a very striking building for your game table.

You can buy the buildings individually or all together, the separate buildings are...

Fu-ts'ang-Lung mission objective room
Picture
Shan-hsiao House
Picture
Feng-Huang House

With an 8 1/4 inch by 12 inch footprint and 13 3/4 inches tall this MDF and hard density carboard scenery piece is going to add a lot of visual impact to a game table. Even if you don't happen to play Yu Jing, this building will certainly add some oriental flair to your scenery!

If you are looking for additional scenery to go with your Yu Jing army checkout Knights of Dice and their Chinatown buildings and scenery.
