Salute is just a few days away and Spectre Miniatures is going to be there in force with their new Undercover Operators. These well armed individuals can represent CIA Special Activities Division, Contractors, DHS Special Operators, or Special Operations Forces. Given that they are armed with a variety of weapons means that they can be used for any number of first-world Tier-1 power players. Over on their Facebook page they gave us a sneak peak at what they are working on behind the scenes. These two upcoming Technicals are going to make great additions to the SUV's that they already offer. I, for one, am very excited to see more modern vehicles being added to the mix.
For the sake of argument, lets say that you have no interest in going the route that I am taking for putting together a set of scenery for Frostgrave. You have more money than time and are looking for something that is going to get you playing sooner. Well, the folks at Escenorama have got you covered with their incredibly detailed set of resin scenery pieces from the Gothic City line. If you don't want to spend a lot of cash, you could instead focus on their Gothic Accessories Megapack, which just happens to be on sale! These bit are going to add loads of raised details to your buildings and ruins. Generic enough that they can be used for fantasy, their are even the prerequisite number of skull bits for 40k. I am thinking that their accessories would look great combined with Hirst Arts Rubble Bricks and really give my Frostgrave layout some visual impact.
What do you think? In the course of my wandering through the virtual reality of the interwebs I chanced upon a site...Powered Play...and found that they produce a rather interesting bit of electronica! The Video Player...which is a 5" video play that run AVI and MP4 videos with a max resolution of 720p off of a 128mb sdram chip. The chip holds about 30 minutes of video and will run about three and a half hours before needing a recharge. As an individual that plays Infinity and 3rd Edition Shadowrun this is a bit of tech that could be put to great use in building terrain. They even offer an option of a MDF billboard (from Greenman Designs).
![]() I have been using this Character Generator since 2013 and I have to say that is pretty much essential in running the game. Especially now that he has added on the GM Tools. With 309 pages (as of this article) of support on the FFG Community forum (here) it is incredibly well supported. The first page and post has a link for you to download the zip file. OggDude deserves a lot of credit for putting so much effort into this program which makes running Star Wars much easier. Gentlemen like him are a huge boon to our hobby and I hope that FFG acknowledges just how much value his free program adds to the Star Wars Game! If you are a game company and you have individuals like OggDude supporting your products do yourself a favor and ship them comp copies of your product. They are far more powerful than you can possibly imagine! So this is a press release that Privateer Press put out...
"Privateer Press Supports Brick-and-Mortar Retailers With New Free Rider Policy Bellevuer, WA, March 29, 2016 - To support the successful health and growth of independent brick-and-mortar retailers in the hobby game industry, Privateer Press has announced a new "free rider" policy with its distribution partners. Online retailers who have little meaningful contact and offer few or no services of value to player audiences undermine the stability of the market by selling products at discounts well below the retail value. They are depending solely on the efforts of independent brick-and-mortar retailers to offer those services that they do not in order to keep their business model alive. This model of business is widely recognized by experts and the justice system as "free riding" and is viewed in the hobby game industry as crippling and anticompetitive. Free riding practices undermine the efforts of Privateer's brick-and-mortar partners and the services they offer that nurture the audience and grow the market." "Upon enacting this policy, Privateer will monitor the market for free riders and provide a confidential list to its distributors regarding which retailers are offering Privateer Press products at an unsustainable deep discount while offering little or nothing in the way of services." "We also recognize that online retailers provide product availability to some customers who do not have ready access to a local brick-and-mortar store. We hope those online retailers-with integrity and the foresight to protect the longevity and availability of the product line providing their income-will swiftly adjust any retailing practices that are counterproductive to the health of our industry." You can read the whole press release here. This policy puts them in line with Asmodee, Games Workshop, Mayfair Games and Wizkids. Unfortunately, it doesn't spell out what is considered too much of a discount or how they will handle hybrid stores, that have both brick-and-mortar and online retail space. What will happen to a hybrid store that gets a dog product in and then marks it down to cost online to get it out of their inventory? Ambiguity...is not anyone's friend. |
