Reaper Miniatures

Reaper Miniatures have posted their January releases for their Dark Heaven Legends Fantasy line. This is their line of white metal miniatures and sounding like a broken record...yet again...one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of the Bones line, yet the incredible amount of detail that the white metal miniatures have always impresses me.

From left to right top to bottom we have...

Thain Grimthorn, a Dwarven Cleric by Ben Siens ($6.49) 03717
Jurden, the Half Orc Paladin by Bobby Jackson ($7.99) 03722
Thund Bloodwrack, Barbarian by Tre Manor ($7.79) 03724
Sir Rathan Kranzhel, Human Fighter by Bobby Jackson ($9.49) 03733
Andriessa, Female Wizard by Bob Ridolfi ($6.49) 03734

Not pictured, Dolphins by Andrew Pieper ($13.49) 03726

Burn In Designs

Lathan, over at Burn In Designs, as you can tell from his Facebook page, has lots of irons in the fire currently.

The shipping container loading crane, will certainly be a favorite spot for a sniper to set up in. It has a pretty massive footprint, yet because of it's open superstructure it is not going to be a huge line of sight blocker...unless you have a container locked in.

The retro Airstream trailer is pretty much a classic that is perfect for any sort of apocalypse game (or a game based off of Tremors). It would be really interesting to try using foil tape instead of painting the exterior of this model. Oxidizing the tape is as simple as rubbing it with steel wool, something I would suggest doing before applying it to the model.

The gas station has ambiguous design lines, so I think that you could get away with using it for any number of time periods (50's on up). Of all the places to have a shootout at...a gas station does seem like the less than optimum location.

The construction office or shipping yard trailer is pretty iconic and a useful piece of terrain to add to the mix. Lathan points out the that light and generator are part of a larger set...but doesn't say precisely what set. So that is something else to keep an eye out for as well!

Stronghold Terrain & Vikings

Every day is a discovery, or at least I like it when it is. Today I have come across Stronghold Terrain, which is a very pleasant discovery indeed. It seems that in addition to making terrain they also do a range of miniatures, along with their SAGA rules. Now, I had heard of SAGA but had never sought it out.

Part of the reason that I call this the Golden Age of Gaming is simply due to the huge array of game products that are available! Too many games...so little time.

If you happen to be a fan of the History Channels breakout hit Vikings (season 4 premiere Thur Feb 18th) you definitely should check Stronghold Terrain out!

Magnetic War Mats for X-Wing & Armada

Kory over at War Mats is offering a preview of his second Kickstarter campaign with a new set of mats. Below are just some of the new designs that he has come up with.

I am looking forward to seeing the bigger 3x6 mat from them...that I just remembered to complete the Paypal invoice on. This week started out horribly with having to put to sleep our dog Nikita (which we had for 18 years), I have been off my game the last couple of days.

So what do you think of the new designs?

Warlord Games just posted a great article talking about the Jagdtiger and ISU-152, not just about how these tank destroyers perform in Bolt Action but historically.

Khurasan Miniatures

So I normally tell you about products and companies that I stumble across...today I am going to switch that around. Today, I would like your help in learning more about this company and their products.

At present Khurasan Miniatures is closed as (he/she/they?) try to catch up on back orders. Their facebook page in the About section has a short description...

"Khurasan Miniatures, retailer of wargames miniature figurines and models"

I believe that they do some 15mm vehicles, however these Middle Eastern fighters and US Infantry don't look like 15's or if they are...wow! The company is not based in the US, and they have a link on their Facebook page to request an address or phone number.

I am understandably intrigued and would like to know more, so what can you tell me about the company and their products?

You can leave your comments below or email me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Dragon Age & A Song of Ice and Fire

Green Ronin Publishing has promised that a second printing of the core rulebook will be out this spring. In addition to that, they believe that they will have re-designed print run of the Dragon Age Dice Set. Re-designed as some feedback let them know that the original set were hard to read.

The big news though is Faces of Thedas, a book dedicated to the characters from the Dragon Age video games and novels. This will include backgrounds, game stats, adventure hooks and supporting rules needed to represent these characters properly. This is something that I am actually very excited about and yet the whole..."Later in the year" release vagueness sets teeth a gnashing. Only time will tell...

Picture
For A Song of Ice and Fire they have announced their plans for 2016 as well...

First, they will be releasing a revised edition of the Narrator's Kit, with a new illustration of the Wall, added reference cards and a combat tracker. This is expected in March.

Then comes the Dragon's Hoard, an epic SIFRP adventure to be released in April with the new season of Game of Thrones tv show on HBO. This adventure promises to keep players and GM's busy for a lengthy period of time.

They are going to be continuing their Chronicle System PDF's , plus new monsters and in particular expanding the magic system, Chronicle of Sorcery.

Horizon Wars & War Mats

Picture
Due to be published April 20th, is Horizon Wars, a 6mm hard science-fiction wargame by Osprey Publishing. Perhaps, designed for those of us who may have collected vast armies of teeny tiny miniatures *cough* Epic 40k *cough* but no longer have a supported game system. (I am not bitter...I just type that way.)

Their copy reads thusly...

"Beyond today's horizons lie uncountable wars still to be fought by mankind - on battlefields, against foes, and with weapons that can only be imagined. With Horizon Wars, wargamers can bring these future conflicts to the tabletop, no matter their exact vision of the future of warfare. Combining the feel of real-world combat and tactics with versatile and quick-to-learn rules, Horizon Wars is a 6mm company-level game that incorporates ground forces, aircraft and the titans of the battlefield - mechs. Whether you want to pit a handful of mechs against each other in quick clash of patrols, or line up combined-arms forces for a huge battle, the game remains fast-moving and enjoyable. Also included are full rules for building units from the ground up, allowing players to tailor their forces to suit the mission objectives or their figure collections."

Coming in at 96 pages, written by Robey Jenkins, illustrated by Jessada Sutthi it may very well be the game system you are looking for.

So we have been playing a bit of X-Wing and are prepping to do some Armada as well. One of the things that is a pain has been "the slip" and far worse the accidental bowling for X-Wings. Remembering that I did a blurb on War Mats a while back I decided to order one of the 3x6 mats as they are currently on sale for $30 off!

As soon as it gets here I will put together a video review of their product and post it over in the X-Wing section.

Stay tuned!
